Homes and Garden Opening

Check out this opening title sequence from Homes & Garden from 1998.

That was a gardening flashback and as the song says ... things are always getting better all the time.

Of course today's opening TV titles are probably going to be looking a little silly in 20 years as well.

Top 10 Questions before Buying A Home in Utah

Another real estate video. This one is from a local Utah REALTOR about buying a home in his state.

As you can see from the video it has several good tips and is not to long at all.

Thursday, 7 June 2012

Mike Holmes Special in Cali

I watched a bit of the 2 hour Mike Holmes special in California last night. It was an old show which I had not seen before and the program info says that it was sponsored by the Ellen show and the DIY network.

In any event these home owners had been taken by a contractor for $204,000 and had been left with what looked to be a wooden shack. Mike Holmes came down to California to fix this home and we all learned a bit about the local building code, designed to handle earthquakes.

Florida Market Report

Since we have looked at Vegas & Arizona already I figured I'd round out my covered of the big 3 real estate market melt downs by finding a     real estate market report for Florida.

This one is put out by a REIT organization and the video quality appears to be the best of all. As per the other 2 market report videos they are forecasting an improved market as we move forward. However, of the 3 markets I'm the most skeptical of Florida in the short term. Hopefully I'm wrong however.

Arizona Real Estate Market

Since the last video discussed the Vegas real estate market with a suggestion that it was improving, I figured I would see if I could get some information on Arizona. As you probably already know Vegas, Arizona & Florida were probably the 3 hardest hit real estate markets over the last few years. Thus this video from Arizona:

This real estate video is discussing Q1 2012 which did end at the end of March but it is fairly new on Youtube which is why it got picked for the preview. As you can see the production quality appears better than the last REALTOR video on Vegas. From this video we can see that this REALTOR is expecting a brighter future for real estate in Arizona.

Good News for Vegas Real Estate Baby

I found this new Realtor video discussing improvements in the Vegas real estate market.

I think this video goes on for a little too long. 6 minutes is a lot to listen to an agent, which is why it's getting a poor rating on Youtube in my opinion. If he could cut (or edit) the talk down to 2 minutes he would probably have a winner.

In any event the realtor is discussing the vegas real estate market and the fact that the number of foreclosures are down. Which is good news for anybody living in that area.

The Good Life in Austin Texas

I came across this real estate brokerage in other video and they looked very interesting. It seems that they are moving to save the environment by going to near 100% ipad use to sell homes in Austin.

This was a short video clip outlining their program for becoming an paperless agent. I'm happy to see somebody is putting the ipad to use as a business tool. Up to now I've always felt it was an expensive but very cool toy. I wonder how long it will be before we see an agent using one on House Hunters, Property Virgins or 1 of the "Selling" shows.

Do you have an tablet that your able to make use of in your business?

It's been slow lately

We have had some great weather locally so I've been spending a lot of time outside enjoying it.

This has of course had an impact on my watching of Real Estate TV & Video. However my PVR is full and I expect to be able to watch some shows in the next little while as we are now expecting a bit of rain. So I'm hoping to be able to push out some blog post on home shows in the next few days.

Until then, I hope your having great weather as well.

Blogspot Changes to Country Specific Domains

I just wanted to let my readers know that Google has made some changes to Blogspot and created country specific domains for each blogspot blog.

Google's reasoning for this is that it allows them to manage content based upon where the reader is reading the blog from thus not get in trouble with your nations government.

Thus if your reading this blog from the US it will remain a .com, however if your reading it from Canada it will be a .ca or from the UK it will be a .co.uk. I assume that Google knows what it's doing in regards to being able to index this site and allow you to read more great Real Estate TV Video content.

London, UK Real Estate for Sale

Check out my first find for a current London real estate listing. Now here is something a little more along the line of a home for sale video that I was initially expecting to find.

This video was posted in April of this year and shows a current London condo for sale. However, I must say that it's very, very stark white!

Was going to be London For Sale but it's Minority Report

Since we covered real estate TV based upon London England, I was looking to add another video to my real real estate series, but I found this gem of a current real estate video:

Now this one is a little different but I wanted to show it. It's plugging UK investment real estate, the video quality is great but I didn't like the the lack of sound in it requiring me to read the screen. The video has a real future "Minority Report" type feel to it doesn't it.

House Hunters Denmark to St. Lucia

It's been awhile since I saw this show of House Hunters International, but since I went to St. Lucia on holidays a few years back I wanted to make sure I covered this amazing island!

In this show we follow a couple moving from Denmark and have a great budget.

There options are:

1) 1 millions for a condo with 2 bedrooms in a resort.
2) 1.6 million for a nice home on a hill with a great view, but not near the water.
3) 1.7 million for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom with 2,500 feet of room and a great location but it was a major fixer upper.

In the end they choice option number #2 with it's 3,000 feet of room, 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and it's great view of the Pitons.

Holmes Inspection - Roof Issues

I watched another Holmes Inspection show. It's amazing to see what a home inspector can miss but what a home builder like Mike Holmes can find just by looking at the home.

In this case the big issues start with the front of the house with 4 layers of shingles rotting out the front roof. While in the back of the house there was a large flat roof that didn't have the proper finishing coat.

Interesting enough, it seems that the prior home owners rushed the home inspection because they were having a dinner party thus cutting the inspection down from 2.5 hours to 1.

If I ever hear that line I'm going to look twice as long and be ready to run away from the house.

BUY HERSELF

Finally figures out what the name of Sandra's new show is. It's called BUY HERSELF. As you recall from my prior post, she has left Property Virgins to start this show.

Monday, 9 April 2012

Selling Spelling

I saw the first show of what should be a short TV series on Selling Spelling Manor this past weekend.

The show is covering the sale of one house. What makes a mini-series out of selling this house is that it's being offered for sale a $150 million!!

In this first show we learned the history of the home. It located on the site of the former Bring Crosby estate which was ripped down to build this monster of a home over nearly a decade of construction!

Should be interesting to watch this one, wonder what they'll get for it.

New Show for Sandra

I saw an ad this past weekend on HGTV for a new real estate tv show. What made this one exciting was that the host was Sandra from Property Virgins. Looks like she gave up hosting Property Virgins and all of the travel associated with it for the new show.

This show is called Her Estate or something similar and it seems to be focused on helping female home buyers! Looks like a good show and an interesting spin on home selling TV.

New Season of Property Virgins!

I saw an ad on HGTV last night promoting a new season of Property Virgins.

It's starts the first week of April and the biggest bomb shell seems to be that they have replaced Sandra with another REALTOR®!

I'm surprised they replaced Sandra, she seemed know what she was doing. Perhaps she wanted more money or was just tired of all the travel that went with show. Would sure be interested to know what happened behind the scenes.

Anyways I'm looking forward to this new season of Property Virgins.

NY to Melbourne

I learned that real estate and homes are expensive in Melbourne. In this show of house hunters international we covered a family moving from NY to Melbourne. The most important thing to the wife was a home with a pool.

But in the end for 900k they purchased a nice home, next door to a beekeeper and his bee hives. Not a place I'd want to be swimming!

A Rental in Rome

House hunters international and it was covering a single woman moving from America to Rome.

The home hunter taking a new job in downtown Rome, (which appeared to be teaching english) and she had a small rental subsidy from her employer. So this ended up being a rental search and not buying a home.

The problem was that the rental rates are out of this world. She had a budget of $5,000 a month but the homes we saw where $6,500 , $6,500 and $7,500!

The location looked exciting but she was not getting a palace for that price. In the end her REALTOR® was able to get the price of the property down towards the affordable $5,000 level and she got a great place to live.

Expensive Homes in London

House hunters international again yesterday and this time instead of showing a big move it was expensive real estate in London.

The home buyer was more of an investor and was looking to buy property in the 1.2 million dollar range in the Hyde Park area of London.

Well it seems that you cannot get much for 1.2 million in London, it's an expensive city.

The options we had where:

1. A nice sized home that needed major work because the prior owner died in the middle of renovating it for 1.2 million.

2. A small, narrow home in a unique location for 1.23 million or

3. A nice, fully upgraded and complete home for 1.7 million.

I think in this one the choice of pretty clear the investor picked home number 1 and was able to purchase it for "only" 800,000!  After some good rennovations the show indicated it was now worth more than twice that amount!

Takes money to make money!

Mexican Vacation Villas

Well there wasn't that great of a selection of real estate videos from Mexico. So I went with something that was a bit older but was easy on the eyes.

I hope you enjoyed all the luxury of this home and the amazing blue of the Mexican sky and water. Makes me want to take another holiday.

However, I'm not really certain if Mexico would be a safe place to go!

Toronto Homes For Sale Video

Toronto is one of those very busy markets with a lot of REALTORS® trying to stand out in a crowd. As such it was easy to find this current home for sale video.

This one is a pretty standard video, converting pictures into a panning movie shot with some very upbeat back ground music. I liked it a lot.

It had a good production value with some ok intro branding and the level of real estate agent branding was at an appriate level.

Overall a good video.

Cincinnati Real Estate For Sale

I've looked for a current video of a home for sale in Cincinnati and I was happy to find that I had a few choices of current real estate videos made this February.

This is a short REALTOR video covering a house that is being sold with some nice background music.

On the side panel throughout the entire video is the REALTORS branding and contact information. It's almost too much as it seems to pull away from the pics of the house.

One interesting thing in this video however is at the end the picture and name of a 2nd real estate agent pops up for a brief second. Not certain why she gets a brief 2nd billing.

Tuesday, 28 February 2012

Toronto to Mexico

Another show of House Hunters international I watched last night was covering a couple moving from Toronto to Mexico. Except that they were not really moving from Toronto, it seem that they were just staying there for a bit after spending the last 3 years living in a 300 square foot apartment in Japan.

The home buyers were looking for a luxury villa in the 200k range, and amazingly they had several very nice options. All with personal sized pools in their backyard.

In the end they ended up purchasing a home for over their price range for 220k. But it was clearly the best of the lot.

House Hunters - Cincinnati

Well house hunters covered home buyers looking in Cincinati last night. Personnally my only experience with Cincinati to date was watching the old classic TV show WKRP.

However, the city seemed very nice from what I saw and real estate pricing seemed to be very reasonable.

This episode covered a young couple looking to buy their first home. Of the three homes we saw my guess was that they would be buying number 3.

I though that the 3rd home was the best fit being a bit bigger than the rest despite the lack of privacy due to it backing onto a high school.

However, in the end they picked home number 1 which must have been in a better area of town.

St Louis Real Estate for Sale

The most current realty tv show covered was St Louis so I'm not going to miss it in my real estate video coverage.

This video is hot off the production press, being posted just yesterday! It shows what looks to be a very nice house in St Louis. Priced at only $61,900 it looks to be a real steal of a real estate deal.

I likedthe video but the audio did seem to come in a few seconds late for my liking. However, the production quality was very good.

Southern Spain Vacation Villas

Another video. This one is covering Southern Spain real estate or more accurately vacation villas.

This video is very similar to the last one I did on Korean real estate. However, this video does have some great spainish back ground music and lots of photos of various Spainish vacation villas that have been sold by the firm producing the video.

Like this other video, this one is from 2011 and is a lot older than the ones I like to highlight in the blog.

South Korean Real Estate Video

Another area that I missed in my real real estate series is the South Korean market. As you recall from the reality tv show foreigners normally end up renting but I went with a video of an apartment for sale.

If you watched the video then this is clearly a luxury apartment available to house hunters. The video wasn't the best quality and is kind of old but there wasn't much of a selection. This one of course didn't seem to have any sound and the person putting it together went a little crazy on transition effects!

Denver Real Estate Video

It's been awhile since I covered the Denver real estate show. But I hate to miss to a market so I'm presenting the following REALTOR video of a home currently for sale on MLS in that market.

This home is in the Washington Park area of Denver with 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. At almost $1.3 million asking price for this property I'd say that the real estate market in Denver must be pretty expensive!

What I liked about this video is that it showed a good number of photos expanding into the room getting larger. Unlike a lot of videos that we see that just move by focusing in on an area.

Tuesday, 31 January 2012

London to the South of Spain

Well this House Hunters International show was fairly unique. It followed the same formula with a home buyer moving from London to the south of Spain. What made this interesting however was that the buyer had a price point in the mid $550k range and that they were looking for something in the country that was very isolated.

Isolated means that you end up owning lots of land all around you! This was not about buying a small unit in a city.

The views of 3 of the homes we saw where amazing! In the end the home buyer purchased a house in the middle of know where but in a classic spain lay out. Lots of room to expand if they needed!

House Hunter St Louis

I've been to St Louis a long long time ago so it was very nice to see a city that I've been to on House Hunters. Always makes it interesting as you try to see if you recognize any of the locations and their seemed to be a few of them.

In this show of HH we had a couple looking to buy a home with older charm that had been updated. The price point was in the 200k to 300k range and their seemed to be a lot of options availalble at this very reasonable price point.

In the end the buyers picked the one home that seemed to meet all of their requirements but didn't seem to have the street appeal that the other ones had to me.

Generic Real Estate Video

While looking for a real estate video for LA, I came across this one that I wanted to show on my blog to my readers:

It is a very generic real estate video for a REALTOR or real estate agent. The prop of the for sale / sold sign doesn't highligh any brokerage. But it's being promoted by some Youtube account with an agents name attached to it as a way to get business.

I'm not certain how successful it will be.

Los Angeles Real Estate

It's been awhile but here is another real estate video. Picked based upon the Selling LA Tv show. So here is my attempt to find a current active real estate listing from Los Angeles:

As you can see I wasn't all that successful. What I ended up doing was targeting the Malibu area of LA to see what I could find and this is one of the newest videos I was able to locate from Sept 2011.

In this video we have a REALTOR discussing the Malibu real estate market and several active MLS listing for sale. All with the ocean and it's noise in the background!

Enjoy!

Cali to South Korea

This was the first house hunters internation show that I've seen that takes place in South Korea. Normally when people are moving it tends to be to a much warmer climate.

In this show we follow to Americans who are moving to South Korea to teach english as many have done before. And as is common as foreigners they cannot buy a home but must rent.

The intersting twist was that in South Korea they required a Key Money deposit of between $15k and $50k! Key money seems to be a lot like a security deposit on the rental unit but it certainly would be a significant barrier to moving out on your own for the first time.

In the end this couple of ending up moving into the cheapest and smallest place available. They tended to come up with reasons why they didn't like the more expensive homes but my gut told me that it really was the money issue.

House Hunters Denver

Denver House Hunter was on this week.

Home buyer were looking in the $600k to $700k range. You can get some very nice homes for that price point in the Denver real estate market it seems.

A wide varity of house where offered to the buyers ranging from an older 70's style with lots of work required to a large fully updated palace.

In the end these home buyers wanted to do the work to tailor the house to their needs so they purchased the older 70's home.

Selling NY back for a 2nd Season

With the launch of Selling LA, I had expect that we had seen the end of Selling New York. I had expect that the series would go the way of the "Real House Wives" series and just keep moving from city to city.

But that doesn't seem to be the case at all, as I just saw an add for Selling New York Season 2. Looks like it is going to start next week.

I hope that they have adjusted the format and improved the show for the 2nd season.

Selling LA

A new real estate TV show started last week called Selling LA. I appears to be a spin off of Selling New York, except that it's in LA. Common to both shows is that it focuses on buying high end homes for the rich.

As I said before I wasn't a big fan of Selling New York since all of the real estate appeared to be very simliar apartment. With the LA spin off the homes are a lot more varied.

Hopefully we will be getting a lot of seasons of Selling LA!

London to Rio Brazil

House Hunters Internation last night! This show was about a man moving from London to Rio Brazil to live with his Brazlian girlfriend.

The home buyer had about $400k to spend and was looking for an older house that was in need of some serious repair that he could fix up over the next year.

Well, only the first house we saw met those fix up conditions, the other 2 where newer and in better shape. So there was no much drama in which home he would be purchasing.

Wednesday, 11 January 2012

House Hunters International - Thailand to Australia

In this show we watch what appeared to be Australian ex-pats living in Thailand moving back to Australia for a work opportunity.

The twist her was that we had a spoiled wife living the life of luxury in Thailand with a nanny to look after her 3 boys and a cook. Thus she spend her days on the beach, something that wasn't going to continue back in Australia.

The buyers where looking in the golden coast area and the prices were all near 1 million with pools.

In the end the picked the home closest to work for the husband.

Income Property - Already Rented

A good show of Income Property was on this week. This one was slightly different as the landlords had already rented out the basement at $850 / month and where just trying to get the unit in move in condition.

The first option was to get the unit up to meet rental code.

The second option was to get the unit to code, plus do the bathroom, kitchen counter top and put in new appliances.

The home owners picked the 2nd option at a cost of $8,500 which was a good choice for them since they found a lot of rot and mold behind the shower when they opened it up.

Thus by spending the money now on the show, they avoided a costly shower fix in a few months!

House Hunters New Orleans

I saw the end of a house hunters show last night which was about a couple moving from New York City back to New Orleans.

I wanted to comment that a lot of  New Orleans real estate must be doing better now. I was expecting that home prices in that market would still be in the dumps but we were looking at homes in the 500k range that had only 3 bedrooms!

Looking forward to getting a chance to watch the entire show.

House Hunters in Chicago

Another new show of house hunters was on HGTV this week. In this issue we have a couple looking to purchase a new home in Chicago nearly Wriggley stadium.

They ended up having 3 choices:

#1 Was an old converted Couch House with no outside land and no parking it was 440k and only 1500 feet.

#2 Was a 3 unit home which included 2 units for renting. Thus making the 575k price tag affordable. It also include 2000 feet of living space in the owners unit.

#3 Also had a single rental unit on the first floor, with a nice 4 bedroom 2 bathroom owners unit on the 2nd and 3rd floors. It had 1700 feet for the owners and some updates. However the 3rd floor was a converted attic with some small bedrooms in my opinion. However the price tag was 577k.

In the end the home buyers picked opinion #3.

House Hunters - Jupiter Florida

I saw one of my first new editions of House Hunter in a very long time over the holidays and I'm finally able to comment on it.

This house hunters took place in Jupiter Florida and covered a single woman looking to buy a home. The most notable thing about this show was that it seem very pro house owners association (HOA).

The buyer wasn't wanting to do much upkeep with the outside of the house and was thus the REALTOR was really pushing the advantages of an HOA. I've never seen this before and figured that it was worth a comment.

Happy New Year to My Readers

I just wanted to wish all of my readers a Happy 2012 New Year!

I hope that you've had a great holiday season and that 2012 brings you lots of success. I'm certain that we will have lots of real estate TV and video to discuss going forward!
